Air Filter Housing and Air Flow Sensor – Installation

Overview

This procedure guides you through installing the air filter housing and air flow sensor on your Porsche 944 S / S2 with the 16v engine. Proper installation ensures optimal air intake and engine performance, keeping your car running smoothly.

Tools Required

• Medium flat tip screwdriver
• 10mm (3/8 inch) socket and ratchet
• 13mm (1/2 inch) socket and ratchet

Step-by-Step Procedure

Step 1: Position the Air Filter Housing and Air Flow Sensor

1. Lower the air flow sensor and air filter housing assembly into the car, ensuring the air flow sensor outlet slides into the rubber inlet plenum boot.
2. Align the filter assembly mounting bracket with the studs on the upper radiator cross-member.

Step 2: Secure the Air Filter Housing

3. Install and tighten the two 13mm bolts at the front of the air filter housing using a 13mm (1/2 inch) socket and ratchet to 20 Nm (15 ft-lbs). These attach the housing to the bracket at the radiator cross-member.
4. Install and tighten the two 10mm bolts at the back of the air filter housing using a 10mm (3/8 inch) socket and ratchet to 10 Nm (7 ft-lbs). These secure it to a mounting bracket.
5. Tighten the clamp on the rubber inlet plenum boot to the air flow sensor with a medium flat tip screwdriver.

Step 3: Reconnect the Air Flow Sensor and Breather Hose

6. Ensure the wire retaining clip on the air flow sensor wiring harness connector is properly positioned, then slide the connector onto the sensor plug.
7. Reattach the breather hose to the air filter housing and tighten the clamp with a medium flat tip screwdriver.

Post Procedure Checklist

• Check that all bolts and clamps are securely tightened.
• Ensure the air flow sensor connector is firmly attached and the retaining clip is in place.
• Inspect the breather hose connection for a tight seal.
• Start the engine and listen for any unusual air intake noises, which could indicate a loose connection.
