Tools Required Stubby Phillips head screwdriver Regular Phillips head screwdriver (optional, stubby can be used for all steps) Small flat tip screwdriver Needle-nose pliers Putty knife (optional, for loosening stuck trim) Parts Required Replacement clock (if needed): 944 641 901 00 Replacement cigarette lighter (if needed): 944 652 103 00 Replacement temperature control unit (if needed): 944 659 021 00 Replacement light bulb for fan speed control knob or cigarette lighter (if needed): 900 631 103 90 Replacement temperature sensor intake cover (if damaged): 944 572 581 00 Step-by-Step Procedure Step 1: Remove the Temperature Control Unit Carefully remove the four control knobs from the temperature control unit. For the fan speed control knob, gently slide a small flat tip screwdriver behind it to apply light pressure while pulling it off to avoid breaking the bulb or retaining tabs. Using a small flat tip screwdriver, gently pry under each outside edge of the temperature control unit cover to loosen and remove it. Locate and remove the four Phillips head screws securing the temperature control unit using a stubby Phillips head screwdriver. Slide the temperature control unit forward, disconnect the electrical connector plug on the back, and remove the unit from the dashboard. Step 2: Access the Clock and Cigarette Lighter Open the passenger-side door (left-hand drive cars) and locate the side trim panel next to the vent. Remove the single Phillips head screw using a stubby Phillips head screwdriver, then slide the panel slightly toward the front of the car to disengage the tabs. Behind the side trim panel, remove the bottom Phillips head screw securing the trim panel. Using a small flat tip screwdriver, carefully remove the rectangular trim cover next to the passenger-side vent control lever. Remove the two Phillips head screws located behind the rectangular trim cover. Remove the temperature sensor intake cover by turning it 90° counter-clockwise using needle-nose pliers. Be cautious to avoid breaking the vents on the cover. Remove the single Phillips head screw behind the temperature sensor intake cover. Pull the right side of the clock trim piece outward. If it’s stuck, check for resistance from the right-side vent slider or upholstery. Carefully push the vent slider head through the slots to avoid damage, or use a putty knife to gently pry the trim from the upholstery. Slide the left edge of the clock trim panel out from behind the temperature control unit. Step 3: Replace Components (Clock, Cigarette Lighter, or Bulbs) With the trim panel removed, access the clock or cigarette lighter. Disconnect their electrical connectors and remove them for replacement or to access the light bulbs. If replacing the light bulb for the clock or cigarette lighter, carefully remove the old bulb and install a new one (900 631 103 90). If installing a new clock (944 641 901 00) or cigarette lighter (944 652 103 00), connect the electrical connectors and secure the component in place. Step 4: Reinstall Components Position the clock trim panel back in place, ensuring the left edge slides behind the temperature control unit. Install the single Phillips head screw in the temperature sensor intake opening and reattach the round vent cover by inserting it and rotating it 90° clockwise. Install the two Phillips head screws beside the passenger-side vent control lever and reattach the rectangular trim cover. Install the Phillips head screw in the bottom of the side trim panel behind the passenger-side vent. Reattach the side trim panel by sliding it back into place and securing it with the single Phillips head screw on the outside edge. Reinstall the temperature control unit by reconnecting the electrical connector, sliding it into place, and securing it with the four Phillips head screws. Reattach the temperature control unit cover by pressing gently on the outside edges to engage the retaining clips. Carefully reinstall the four control knobs, ensuring the fan speed control knob is aligned to avoid damaging the bulb or retaining tabs. Post Procedure Checklist Verify that the temperature control unit, clock, and cigarette lighter function correctly. Check that all control knobs, especially the fan speed knob, are secure and operate smoothly. Ensure all trim pieces are firmly in place with no gaps or loose screws. Test the dashboard lights to confirm the clock, cigarette lighter, and fan speed control knob bulbs illuminate properly.
