Step-by-Step Procedure

Step 1: Prepare for Safe Removal

1. Put on safety glasses to protect your eyes from potential fuel spray.
2. Place catch rags under the fuel pressure regulator to catch any fuel that may spill during disconnection.

Step 2: Disconnect the Vacuum Line

3. Locate the vacuum line connected to the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail.
4. Gently pull the vacuum line off the regulator’s nipple. If it’s stuck, twist it slightly to loosen it.

Step 3: Disconnect the Fuel Line

5. Identify the fuel line connected to the fuel pressure regulator, secured by a hose clamp.
6. Using a flat tip or Phillips head screwdriver, loosen the hose clamp and slide it back along the fuel line.
7. Carefully disconnect the fuel line from the regulator, keeping a catch rag over the connection to absorb any fuel spray. Be cautious, as the fuel rail may still be pressurized.

Step 4: Remove the Fuel Pressure Regulator

8. Locate the two retaining bolts securing the fuel pressure regulator to the fuel rail (typically 10mm).
9. Using a 10mm socket and ratchet, remove the retaining bolts.
10. Gently rock the regulator back and forth to free it from the fuel rail, then pull it out.

Step 5: Install the New Fuel Pressure Regulator

11. Insert the new fuel pressure regulator (944 110 198 01 for Pre-85.5 or 944 110 198 03 for 85.5 Onwards) into the fuel rail, ensuring it seats properly.
12. Install and tighten the retaining bolts using a 10mm socket and ratchet to 10 Nm (7 ft-lbs), as specified in the Porsche 944 Workshop Manuals.

Step 6: Reconnect the Fuel Line

13. Reconnect the fuel line to the new regulator, ensuring a secure fit.
14. Slide the hose clamp back into place and tighten it using a flat tip or Phillips head screwdriver.

Step 7: Reconnect the Vacuum Line

15. Push the vacuum line back onto the regulator’s nipple, ensuring a snug connection.

• Check for fuel leaks at the fuel line and regulator connections.
• Verify the vacuum line is securely attached and free of cracks.
