Body Door Panel Removal and Installation – 2.5L NA Estimated reading: 2 minutes Contributors Overview This procedure explains how to safely remove and reinstall the door panel of a Porsche 944 (8-valve engine configurations) for model years 1983-1985.5 (Pre 85.5) and 1985.5-1988 (85.5 Onwards). Proper removal prevents damage to the interior trim and components such as door handles and electrical connectors. Tools Required Phillips head screwdriver Probe or small flat tip screwdriver Door panel removal tool (optional, recommended) Step-by-Step Procedure Step 1: Remove Door Panel Screws Locate two Phillips head screws behind plastic covers near the top front and rear of the door panel. Use a small probe or flat tip screwdriver to gently pry off the plastic covers and remove screws using a Phillips screwdriver. Step 2: Remove Speaker Grill and Door Pocket Remove the speaker grill using a Phillips screwdriver. (Pre 85.5) For manual windows, remove the window crank handle. Remove Phillips screws from the bottom edge and front of the door pocket, then slide the pocket downward to remove. Step 3: Remove Plastic Mounting Block After removing the door pocket, locate and remove the plastic mounting block at the front of the panel using a Phillips screwdriver. Step 4: Remove Interior Door Handle Screw Pull out the interior door handle as if opening the door, carefully remove the Phillips screw behind the handle. Use caution to avoid damage. Step 5: Remove Door Armrest Screws Remove the three Phillips screws located underneath the door armrest, angled approximately 45° into the door. Step 6: Detach Door Panel Push Plugs At the rear edge of the panel, gently lift and pry off the plastic push plugs using the door panel removal tool or carefully with a flat screwdriver. Step 7: Remove Door Panel Lift the panel upwards to release the hanging tab from its slot, clearing the lock button at the door top. (85.5 Onwards) For electric windows, carefully disconnect electrical connector plugs for the window switch. Slide a small screwdriver beneath plastic tabs on one side, lift slightly, then repeat on the opposite side to release without damage. Step 8: Installation Installation is the reverse of removal. Ensure all components are properly aligned and reconnected. Post Procedure Checklist Ensure the door panel fits securely without gaps or loose components. Check functionality of door handles, window cranks or switches, and speaker. Inspect for any damage or loose clips.
