Alarm System – Bypassing – 2.5L NA

Overview

This procedure guides you through bypassing the alarm system on all Porsche 944 variants with an 8-valve engine configuration to troubleshoot engine starting issues. Bypassing the alarm module can help determine if it’s causing a “no start” condition by disconnecting the module and installing jumper wires in its connector. This guide is tailored for both pre-1985.5 (83–85.5) and 1985.5 onwards (86–88) variants of the Porsche 944.

Step-by-Step Procedure

Step 1: Locate the Alarm Module

1. Find the alarm module, a black box roughly the size of a cigarette pack.

For Pre-85.5 models:

• The module is located behind the radio in the back of the center console.

For 85.5 Onwards models:

• The module is located behind the kick panel in the passenger’s footwell, above the DME computer.

Step 2: Disconnect the Alarm Module

2. Locate the electrical plug connected to the alarm module.
3. Carefully disconnect the electrical plug from the alarm module.

Step 3: Install Jumper Wires

4. Prepare two wire jumpers with spade connectors.

For Pre-85.5 models:

• Connect the first jumper from Pin 1 (Green wire) to Pin 4 (Black wire) on the large module connector.

• Connect the second jumper from Pin 7 (Brown/Black wire) to Pin 8 (Brown/Red wire) on the large module connector.

For 85.5 Onwards models:

• Connect the first jumper from Pin 1 (Black/White wire) to Pin 4 (Green wire) on the large module connector.

• Connect the second jumper from Pin 7 (Yellow/Red wire) to Pin 8 (Blue wire) on the large module connector.

Step 4: Test the Vehicle

5. Attempt to start the vehicle to verify if the alarm bypass was successful.
6. If the vehicle starts, the alarm module may be faulty and require replacement. Consult a professional or refer to the Porsche 944 Workshop Manuals for further guidance.
7. If the vehicle does not start, the alarm module is likely not the cause of the “no start” condition. Proceed with additional troubleshooting steps as needed.

Post Procedure Checklist

• Ensure all jumper wires are securely connected to the correct pins.
• Verify the vehicle starts successfully or confirm the alarm module is not the issue.
• Check that the electrical plug is safely disconnected and stored to prevent damage.
