Tools Required Medium flat tip screwdriver 10mm (3/8 inch) socket and ratchet 13mm (1/2 inch) socket and ratchet Flat tip jeweler’s screwdriver or straight probe Step-by-Step Procedure Step 1: Remove the Air Filter Cover and Breather Hose Use a medium flat tip screwdriver to loosen the clamps on the air filter cover. Remove the air filter cover and the air filter itself. Disconnect the breather hose from the air filter housing. It’s easier to lift the cover and hose out together as a unit. Step 2: Disconnect the Air Flow Sensor Locate the clamp holding the rubber inlet plenum boot to the air flow sensor and loosen it with a medium flat tip screwdriver. Find the electrical connector on the air flow sensor. Using a flat tip jeweler’s screwdriver or straight probe, gently push back the ends of the wire retaining clip until they rest on the side of the connector. Slide the connector off the plug carefully. Locate the two electrical wires secured to the air flow sensor with a small red plastic clip and an L-bracket. Use a 10mm (3/8 inch) socket and ratchet to remove the single bolt holding the L-bracket to the air flow sensor assembly, then detach the L-bracket. Avoid pulling the clip directly to prevent breaking it. Step 3: Remove the Air Filter Housing Use a 13mm (1/2 inch) socket and ratchet to remove the two bolts at the front of the air filter housing. These attach the housing to the bracket at the radiator cross-member. Use a 10mm (3/8 inch) socket and ratchet to remove the two bolts at the back of the air filter housing. These secure it to a mounting bracket. Lift the air flow sensor and air filter housing out of the car as a single unit. Post Procedure Checklist Ensure all tools and removed bolts are accounted for and stored safely. Check the air filter housing and air flow sensor for any damage or wear before reinstallation. Inspect the rubber inlet plenum boot for cracks or leaks that might need repair.
